Belleville, IL, October 17, 2011. Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd. (MM&R), today announced that two of its attorneys, George Marifian and Philip Speicher, have been reappointed to serve on the Federal Taxation Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) for its fiscal year ending June 30, 2012.

George Marifian, a shareholder at MM&R, returns to the council as its secretary for the new fiscal year. "The ISBA is fortunate to have George Marifian's leadership and experience on the Federal Taxation Section Council. As a longtime member of the ISBA and a former council chairman, Marifian will mentor and help to transition a new generation of members into council leadership roles," remarked Doug Barringer, ISBA Director of Administrative Services and Staff Liaison to the Council.

Marifian, who has served continuously on one of the ISBA's section councils or committees since 1985, concentrates his practice in business law, civil and criminal tax controversy, estate planning and probate, and litigation related to these practice areas. He is a recognized tax authority and a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.

Philip Speicher has been reappointed to the ISBA Federal Taxation Section Council. An emerging and talented tax practitioner, Speicher was a speaker at the Federal Taxation Section's premier continuing education program, the Annual Federal Tax Conference, last winter in Chicago. Speicher, an associate at MM&R, focuses his practice in business law, taxation, estate planning and real estate law. He has been a member of the ISBA since 2005.
