Belleville, IL, Oct. 12, 2009. Thanks to a joint effort between the staff of Mathis, Marifian, Richter & Grandy, Ltd. (MMR&G), and "The Dreamweaver's" Relay for Life team, a record $6,200 was raised at the chili cook-off in downtown Belleville to benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS). This year marks the seventh year the team has participated, and it's a record-setting year as it is the most the team has ever raised from the event. The entire proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
Laura Grandy, a shareholder at MMR&G, has long been a member of the Dreamweaver's Relay for Life team, and in 2003, she and others from the law firm got involved in the chili cook-off to help raise funds for ACS. Donations for the chili are donated entirely by individuals from Dreamweaver's, staff of the law firm and MMR&G. An estimated 180 gallons of chili was made for this year's event. The same individuals who donated and cooked the chili prior to the cook-off came out to man the booth starting at 7 a.m. and worked until almost midnight each day doing clean-up.
"It's a totally collaborative effort by all who participate in getting the supplies, cooking the food and staffing the two-day event. We have such wonderful people turnout each year to help us make it a great event and, most importantly, their actions allow us to raise very necessary funds to help support a great organization."
The chili cook-off is one of several charitable outreach efforts that MMR&G supports annually, such as Art on the Square and a law scholarship program for local high school seniors interested in law careers. In addition, many of the attorneys and staff of the law firm regularly contribute their time and financial support to a multitude of organizations throughout Southern Illinois.
Established in 1984, Mathis, Marifian, Richter & Grandy, Ltd., has emerged as one of the most trusted and respected law firms in the St. Louis and Southern Illinois areas.
