Belleville, IL – May 27, 2016 – Today, attorneys and staff at the law firm of Mathis, Marifian and Richter, Ltd. raised funds for the St. Louis chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association with a Jeans Day promotion. Employees at all office locations voluntarily chose to donate money to the cause and were extended the opportunity to dress casually for the day in recognition of their support. The MMR Foundation, a charitable support organization established by members of the firm, matched the funds raised by the employees to double the contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association.
“We care deeply about senior citizens and their families who live in the Metro East area, so it’s important to us, as a local business, to support this part our community when we can,” said Patrick B. Mathis, a shareholder at Mathis, Marifian and Richter, Ltd. “Our law firm is proud to support a number of charities and we’re especially pleased to help a local branch of the Alzheimer’s Association.”
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, a general term for loss of memory and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life, and accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases. Alzheimer's is a progressive disease, where dementia symptoms gradually worsen over a number of years. Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Today, there is no known cure for Alzheimer’s disease, although treatments that slow the worsening of symptoms are available and research continues to show promise in advancing this therapy.
