Belleville Attorney Participates in Public Hearing of Illinois Supreme Court to Improve Mortgage Foreclosure Process in Illinois

Belleville, IL, July 10, 2012. Kevin J. Stine, a shareholder at Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd., participated in a public hearing sponsored by the Illinois Supreme Court in Chicago, Ill., on Friday, June 8, 2012.
Stine was selected by Supreme Court Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier last year to serve on a special committee formed to study and formulate proposals to improve the judicial process in mortgage foreclosures throughout Illinois. The purpose of the hearing was to obtain input and comments regarding loss mitigation practices recommended by the special committee to be implemented by the Illinois Supreme Court in mortgage foreclosure cases.
Stine, who focuses his practice in banking law, bankruptcy, real estate law andcommercial litigation, serves on the committee with 13 other people throughout the state who have been on the front lines in dealing with mortgage foreclosures. The committee consists of attorneys, judges, bankers, a law professor and an official from the Illinois Attorney General's office.
The Supreme Court's broad charge to the committee was to devise a structure to ensure fair and efficient foreclosure proceedings and recommend to the court mortgage foreclosure rules to be implemented statewide. The Supreme Court will consider the report of the committee as well as the input from the speakers at the hearing to determine what loss mitigation practices should be implemented in Illinois mortgage foreclosure cases.
